Larait Necklaces

I love to wear something simple and classic. I also like having a piece of jewelry that is unique – when I saw a fantastic silver and pearl “larait” style necklace I just had to try and make my own.

This lilac necklace is one varation of the necklace that I have been creating. I love sterling silver and pearls – this piece just needed a hint of color. The lavendar is sutle and has really looked fantastic with all different colors of clothing.

The wrap of the chain also provides versatility of the chain length. This is wearable with a v-neck top or even a higher cut collar. The necklace has been a fun piece and it has been great to get so much positive feedback.

Typewriter Earrings

This has been a fun week! I was given a rusted, damaged and broken down Smith Corona Typewriter. The key shanks were bent and no longer functioned so……it was time to find a new purpose for the parts.

It has beem time consuming work to deconstruct the typewriter. Due diligence has been taken to remove and perserve as many of the parts as possible. The first project is an attempt at turning the keys into earrings. These have been a different change of pace….but they turned out great.

This was my first opportunity to work with Smith Corona white keys; I am loving the look of them. I am a huge fan of sterling silver and the bezels for the keys are not silver so …. a little oxidation and the sterling earwires match the bezels just fine.

The first pair of earrings was a custom order. I was having a little bit of fun with the second pair – L for left and R for right. Not sure what other letters may make for fun; but thought I should share these – they just make me smile .

Plant and Garden Stakes

I enjoy finding new uses for old things. I have been having fun taking mis-matched and abandoned vintage silver ware and making garden stakes for our backyard garden. For the past few years our garden stakes just have not held up to the elements. As I was working on some metal jewelry I thought I should try and find a metal steak I could stamp for our veggie garden and I went to the silverware drawer……here you have it another repurposed item.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to make some fun stakes with garden quotes….they turned out great! If you have any fun quotes or sayings for the spoons – send em my way I am looking for more ideas.

We have been busy at work with some incredibly fun custom items – weddings have be a theme with us as of late. Metal stamping pennies, dimes and silver pendants for personalized bridal party items and wedding favors have been a unique way to add to one’s special day. 2011 – Let Er Rip!

The last two months of 2010 were absolutely crazy – we participated in 3 Art & Craft venues and learned a ton about getting out there and selling our jewelry. In In December we had the opportunity of participating in a Holiday gift show and we did well – our customers loved the typewriter bracelets and State Quarters with their favorite team stamped on them. We are rolling right into 2011 by being vendors at a state cheer competition and we are currently working on inventory for the event.

With all that going on – I thought I should be working on some more organic and less structured pieces – here is my first piece of the year and I thought it was kind of fun. It was a little brass piece given to me last March when I was in Grand Junction Colorado – it has been waiting to be turned into wearable art. What do you think? Should we make more pieces like this?

Nutcracker 2010

One of my girls dances in the local Nutcracker production and this cast has a tradition of gifting to the members of their group the opening night. Needless to say in small town every possible Nutcracker themed item gets snapped up quickly – so I thought handstamped pennies may fit the cause. Here are pennies with “Nutcracker” stamped on the bottom and the dancers first inital stamped in the middle of the coin. I also added a date tag of “10″ for 2010 along with a crystal. I hope the girls like them.

Working on a bracelet for my sister-in-law – it is fun to mix and match keys from the different sets of keys.
